We began demolition of the Main Street Auditorium about two months ago and now
it is gone. There is no turning back.
As you might imagine, I have been following all of this with some interest. You
can do the same by logging onto the CBC website: www.calvarybiblechurch.org and
clicking on the construction camera which will give you two current views of the
construction site which refresh twice a minute. This deconstruction process has
reminded me somewhat of the way stewardship works.
In the beginning there were individual guys climbing all over the building,
tying stuff up, tossing stuff out, etc. Their work was and is essential because
in their sheer numbers and skills they approach the task on its most basic
level. They were the first ones in and have been there faithfully every day
doing their thing. They remind me of the people in our congregation who first
responded to the vision to build and have faithfully been giving to the project
since day one. As a result of the giving of this first group we have over 2.5
million dollars in the bank.
More recently, we have seen a different kind of person at the construction site.
For example, one who drives these big trucks who are hauling the hundreds of
yards of dirt and debris away from the site. These have been waiting until the
right time to play their part. Like them, there are those of you who have been
waiting to give until what you felt was the appropriate time. Well, the time is
now! Yes, we have 2.5 million but we need 9 million. Wait no longer.
Back on the jobsite I noticed a third kind of person. These are the guys who
operate the heavy equipment. There are far fewer of them but they have a
disproportionate impact on the construction process. They pull a lever and a
whole wall comes down. They pulled the giant concrete pilings out of the ground
and deposited them in the trucks to be hauled away. Some of you are financially
like that. God has granted you the ability to make a powerful impact on this
entire process.
Every person at Calvary fits into one of the three roles I described. If you
have been giving faithfully from the beginning, please continue to do so. Your
giving is essential and exemplary. You have led the way from the beginning and
we need you to continue to do so. If you have been waiting for the right moment
to get involved, wait no longer. This project is real and you want to be a part
of it. Timing plays a huge role in endeavors like this, and now is your time.
For those whom God has enabled to do mighty things financially, now is the time
to step up. You know, there is nothing like a huge Caterpillar Tractor to move
the pile. If God has given you that ability, use it. You can change the course
of this project.
At the moment we have about 2.5 million dollars in the bank but this will begin
to take a serious hit as construction begins in earnest. Every dollar given now
can save not only itself but another dollar down the road in finance charges.
Why should we pay one dollar in interest when that money could be used to
support a ministry which impacts lives for eternity?
Let us give cheerfully and generously to the work that God has given us to do.
