Periodically, around this time of year, I like to sit down and think about things that I am thankful for. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 convicts me of the fact that I need to do this more often — “in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.” It is part of God's will for us to give thanks to Him. Let me challenge all of you to take some time this month to sit down and write out some of the many things that you are thankful for. If you do this, you'll be reminded of just how awesome and good our glorious God is. Here, in no particular order, are a few of the things that I am thankful for:
- A Savior who loves me so much that He was willing to die for my sins.
- A wife who, for some unknown reason, adores me.
- Silly children that remind me to laugh frequently and loud.
- The privilege of being used by God to shepherd His flock.
- A house that is already filled with many wonderful memories.
- A friend that makes me laugh about some wacky Beatles' theory! (Dohhhh, I just feed into it, again!)
- A daughter who loves to be tickled.
- Faithful men who continually make time to build into my life, as I build into theirs.
- Shrieks of excitement from my children as I walk through the door.
- Godly leaders who challenge me to thirst for God.
- Friends and co–workers who desire to serve God by serving His children.
- Two cars that are paid off and still working fairly well.
- The fact that I'm able to go to seminary.
- A Church body that strives to live out the Gospel.
- A God who offers me infallible, inerrant, absolute truth through His word.
- A son that reminds me of the fact that I used to have hair like that.
- A wife that challenges me to be a godly man through her desire to be a godly woman.
- A little girl who loves to put a sticker on me the minute I get home from work.
- A God who showers me with grace and mercy every day.
- A staff of Pastors who desire to glorify God with their lives.
- My family's bedtime ritual of reading a story, singing a hymn, and praying.
- A wife that seems to get more beautiful with each passing year.
- The marks on the wall of the pantry that show the various heights of my children at different ages.
