Gifts are very much on everyone's mind this time of year. Giving them to others communicates our joyous love and appreciation for their involvement in our lives. These gifts are usually materialistic and they last only a short time.
In the missions field, our missionaries are communicating to many people the greatest gift of all that can be bestowed on anyone; the Gift of Eternal Salvation. In John 3:16 we read that God “…gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but has eternal life.” And in Ephesians 2:8, we see that “…it is the gift of God,” bestowed on us for eternal salvation. To the many people groups that our missionaries serve, communicating this greatest gift is the primary focus in all seasons. Those who hear the Gospel and accept its message are receiving the most glorious gift of their lives. This lasting present is worth more than any worldly possession.
Please consider your role and priority this season. How are you contributing to this on–going gift–giving that is being communicated by our missionaries? Shouldn't this commitment be a continual one for you, as well, and not just seasonal? As we give gifts to our loved ones this season, please consider how you can contribute, through Missions, so that the unsaved in many other cultures, may be blessed by hearing about the greatest gift of all.
