September, 2003

September is here! The word September paints a picture in my mind of alarm clocks and bright-faced children, school bells, pencils, Elmer's glue, backpacks and books. September is the perfect time to join the ranks of studious school children by becoming a student yourself.
In Ps. 1:1-2 we read: “How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” Ps. 1 reveals godly actions that are pleasing to the Lord (notice that word blessed) are the result of a focused mind - not a mind devoted to self or the latest worldly philosophy, but a mind focused on the Lord and His ways. A godly woman's life is a reflection of her thought life. Notice too, how a godly woman approaches God's Word. Verse 2 says it is her delight not her drudgery! She even meditates on it (that means she considers it, studies it, talks about it, prays over it, and even memorizes God's Word)! Verse 3 shows us the harvest that comes from such diligence. It says: “He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.” A godly woman whose mind is directed toward God is established, unwavering, and steadfast. She is able to minister to others and to persevere in life because her roots are fastened upon God's Word.
