The Wall

September, 2006

by: Brodie McClain

“ With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the Gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”

This fall the High School Ministry at Calvary Bible Church returns to Burroughs, Burbank, Verdugo, Monroe, Hoover, Village, Maranatha and Monroe High Schools. You will also find our students frequenting the neighborhoods of Burbank, Glendale, La Canada, North Hollywood, Hollywood, Santa Clarita, and even Palmdale. These students will be entering arenas where sexual promiscuity, immodesty, foul language, cheating, disrespect of parents, disregard for authority, dismissal of absolute truth, greed, and a multitude of other sins run rampant and present a daily temptation. They will enter a battlefield laden with philosophies and ideologies which directly attack the truth in the Bible. They will encounter images and sounds which will lure them into devastating paths of unrighteousness and from all sides there will be pressure to cave.

In my mind’s eye a scene comes into focus. I see this lone student, saved by the grace of God pushing against a giant wall. On the other side of the wall are the myriad of enemies pressing back. The influences, the pressures, the evils, the lusts, all in battle garb under the command of their leader, Satan. All pushing against this lone teenager. And the wall begins to move. Slowly, steadily forward. The teenager, all 130 lbs of her, is gradually moving the entire force backwards! She is taking ground away! The minions on the opposite side redouble their forces and surge against the wall, but to no avail, they still lose ground. And as I sit back in amazement I begin to see something around her. At first it is blurry but then it becomes clear. It is a hand gently pressing the wall next to her.

It is God’s hand. And it is being moved by prayer, the prayers of her brothers and sisters in Christ. I see an 83 year old shut-in on her knees at lunch time praying for this girl. I see a 58 year old business man lifting her up on his break. I see a mother of four young children, all with heads bowed and hands folded praying for their teenage friend to stand strong. I see a college student driving to school while his heart cries out to God for this teen. They all move God’s hand and the girl moves forward. And with each step forward she wins another friend to Christ.

Will you join her in her battle against the enemy to win souls for Christ?

This fall we go back to school. To win souls and be ambassadors and pronounce the power of God to a dying people. Will you pray for us?

If you would like to join our team of prayer warriors for these students please contact Brodie McClain by phone or email (556-4840 x118 or brodiem@calvarybiblechurch.org) and find out how you can specifically pray for these teens.
