Report on High School Evangelism

October, 2006

by: Brodie McClain

Slaves to All

The reports are back from the first week of school at John Burroughs High School. A group of eleven Calvary Bible Church students, stomachs churning, inaugurated an evangelistic outreach to their unsaved friends on the first Wednesday of the school year. Phil, Danny, Ryan, Shane, Peter, Michael, Spencer, Justine, Wendy, Nicole, and Carly ate their lunch, grabbed their Bibles, and went out to share the Gospel with the sea of students at JBHS. They had mixed results… some were lost, some were immediately rejected, some were listened to, but all these students took a stand for Christ in a dark place and began a year-long crusade every Wednesday at lunch to win their friends to Christ.

Later that night at youth group we walked through 1 Corinthians 9:16-23 where Paul reveals his heart for preaching the Gospel. Paul did not see preaching the gospel as a choice but as a stewardship, he did not view evangelizing as something he should be complimented for doing but something that he should be cursed for not doing. And even though he was free in Christ he willingly made himself a slave to all in order to win people to Christ. Paul’s life evidenced this passion and sacrifice (2 Corinthians 11:23ff.) and he sealed his commitment with his own blood. This commitment to share the Gospel was not, however, easy to maintain and thus Paul asks the church at Ephesus to pray for him that he may speak boldly as he ought (Ephesians 6:20).

It is my desire to enlist those of you reading this article to pray for these high school students that they may keep sharing boldly as they ought. The first set of names have come in, names of students in Burbank that need the Gospel. Please join our prayer team and beseech the Lord to save the unsaved and to impart boldness to these eleven students, and those others that will join them in the months to come.

I would like you to join our team (we are, after all, one body) so I can email you or call you with our current prayer needs — please contact me to get on that team (brodiem@calvarybiblechurch.org) or (818) 556-4840 x118.
