The objective of Men’s Ministry is to disciple and equip the men of Calvary in their
roles as men of God, whether married, single, older, younger. We seek to provide
a venue for modeling the life of Christ to men. We seek to do this through teaching,
fellowship, and service; providing opportunity for fostering spiritual friendships
and developing discipling relationships, so that men can grow in conformity to Christ,
specifically in their roles as men.
The rationale for this is simple. Men have been given the key role in the Body of
Christ. All believing men of the church, from pastoral Person to any believing man
in the pew, have the responsibility to walk with Christ in obedience and grow in
conformity to his image. Men, married or single, often live isolated from the active
fellowship of other Christian men. Proverbs 27.17 says, “Iron sharpens iron, so
one man sharpens another.” The principle given here is that men need the encouragement,
teaching, fellowship, and modeling of the Christian life from other men.

FAQ
- What is Men’s Ministry?
The Men’s Ministry complements the overall ministry of Calvary Bible Church by focusing
our ministry specifically toward men. The goal of our ministry is to bring men
to maturity in Christ (Col 1:28; Eph 4-6) by helping them understand
God’s purpose for them and fulfill their God-given roles as men.
We are in the process of:
- Exemplifying Christ-likeness
- Encouraging men to godliness
- Equipping men for service
Romans 8:29 states that God’s purpose in eternity is to conform us to the image
of his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. While on this earth, God has assigned
men the role of leadership, both within the home and in the Church. This role reflects
the accountability to which God holds males.
- What is your program?
- Monthly breakfasts, featuring teaching directly applicable to men in their
roles. Our breakfasts provide time for prayer and developing godly friendships.
Our Calvary Food Ministry provides a breakfast fit for a child of the King! You
can listen to them here.
- Men’s small groups, providing an opportunity for Bible study and prayer,
building spiritual friendships and discipling relationships.
- Retreats, where men can spend extended time receiving teaching, enjoying
fellowship and developing relationships.
- Discipleship pairing: We are proactively involved in connecting men in discipling
relationships (to disciple or be discipled).
- What is unique about Men’s Ministry?
Our focus is discipleship.
We seek to pair mature mentors with men who wish to be disciples. Our ministry is
working toward meeting men where they are at in order to bring them to where God
wants in the areas of:
- being disciples (‘disciple’ means ‘learner’)
- developing spiritual friendships with other men, younger and older, single and married
- learning godly habits and how to deal with those areas of sin that men commonly
struggle with
- learning how to be leaders (at home and church)
- learning to raise children, love their wives
- learning to serve the Body of Christ and exercise their gifts
- prayer
- learning to be disciplers in their homes and church and share their faith
- serious study and personal application of the Word
We seek to expose men to solid Bible teaching (both expository and topical) specifically
directed to men’s issues.
- Why small groups?
Men need a place where they can speak freely about their struggles and help one
another apply God’s Word. The focus of the groups is not simply to study the Bible,
but to apply God’s truth to their lives as men.
Small groups are simply one means of getting men together in situations where they
can relate to other men and provide an opportunity to talk and pray about their
lives, their families, their struggles, their victories, and to hold one another
accountable.
A by-product of these groups is that men develop friendships with other men who
desire to improve their walk with God, to see their lives count for Christ, and
to lead their families.
- What do your small groups do?
Some of the groups are studying a book of the Bible, some are reading and discussing
a Christian book on a specific subject of interest/need for the group.
Time is devoted in each meeting to praying for one another.
The men in the groups are a varied mix of young and old, single and married, mature
and maturing believers. They meet at various times on various days (see our listing
of small groups).
- What resources does men’s ministry offer?
- Training for teaching/discipling/Bible study
- Books and resources for teaching others and personal edification for men
- Tapes are available of retreat and men’s breakfast messages
- Outlines/study notes from retreats
- How do I get involved in the Men’s Ministry?
- Attend the Saturday morning breakfasts.
- Visit the table in the foyer after Sunday’s service and let us know what you are
interested in.
- Call the leader of a small group that best fits your needs.
- Pray about being committed to other men in the church and let God show you where
this can best take place.
