Doctrine means “teaching.” The Basic Bible Doctrine class is a survey of the major doctrines or teachings of the Bible. Understanding the major doctrines of the Bible gives you a foundation on which to build all of your theology (understanding of God). Having a general understanding of doctrine also helps you avoid doctrinal error. Each of the major doctrines is like a file in a filing cabinet. As you learn the Scriptures, you will be able to organize what you learn from the Bible into the correct theological category. Not having a solid understanding of basic Bible doctrines is like not having a filing cabinet. People who have no doctrinal foundation often have mixed and confused thoughts about what the Bible teaches. Each lesson contains a written study with Scriptures and questions which will help you:

- discover key Scriptures which relate to that doctrine
- learn how various doctrines relate to each other
- learn how the doctrines of the Bible apply to your life
