Key Scripture

For I am convinced, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creation, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

I was born in Lewiston, Idaho, into a family that loved to move. We moved several times in the Pacific Northwest area before moving to Southern California when I was at the age of four. I lived in Eagle Rock (next to Glendale) up through 10th grade, at which time I moved to Burbank. I graduated from Burbank High School, went on to graduate from U.C.L.A., and have lived in the Burbank/Glendale area ever since.

I grew up in a Christian home, attended church regularly, but up until age 12, I truly only attended because my parents required it or it was just a chance to be with my friends. However, one Sunday night my pastor at Church of the Open Door in Los Angeles clearly shared the gospel and by the grace of God that night I repented from my sins, received God's forgiveness for my sins through what Jesus Christ did for me on the cross of Calvary, and began a new life in Christ. Soon after I began attending Calvary Bible Church (1976) and have been a part of this body ever since.

I met my wife Kristen while in Junior High here at Calvary! We were married in August of 1982. We have been blessed with three lovely daughters (Julie Martin, Laura Luizzi, and Amy Kelley), three sons-in-law (Ian Martin, Nick Luizzi, & Hal Kelley), and four wonderful grandchildren (Cade, Reese, & Drew Martin and Luca Luizzi).

While at Calvary, I have been able to serve as an Elder since 1990, as a Director in AWANA, taught the Young Married's Sunday School class, directed the Junior High group, taught in various Adult Sunday School classes, oversaw and co-taught the Veritas ministry to College-Aged Adults, and served with the Men's Ministry team. I even got to work with the newborns and "crawlers," which was a blast. I have also enjoyed coaching several of our Youth softball and basketball teams which participate in the local Park & Recreation leagues. I feel privileged to have been able to experience several aspects of our churches "Body Life" and realize we truly are one Body in Christ with several members using their gifts to the glory of God. What a blessing!

As an Elder, I am blessed with the opportunity to minister where I love to serve…with people!  Pouring into the lives of people to know and love God more is what I am passionate about. And this church is full of people who I know are passionate about that as well.  I am amazed at all that this church does to minister to the Body of Calvary and to people in our community in the name of Christ. It is a blessing to see all that God has done, is now doing, and what I know He will do through the people of Calvary Bible Church. To God be the glory!
